Description:

Big Bud is a popular strain that has resided in the Netherlands for quite some time but is rumored to be originally developed in the United States of America.  It is told that the strain was brought across the Atlantic to the Dutch in the mid-1980’s to be preserved due to the War on Drugs movement in America. Big Bud is named for its main attribute, massive nuggets.  Big Bud also is a great strain for the farmer that desires a substantial yield come harvest time. Its buds mature large and nicely with a below average amount of close leaf surrounding the nugs. BB has a pleasant earthy aroma that is mildly spicy.

Big Bud, like almost every other strain that exists today, is a sativa/indica hybrid. It is indica dominant; this translates to a deeply relaxing high that can be felt all through the body.  Indica dominant strains typically deliver such a euphoric relaxing high that leads to sleepiness; Big Bud definitely falls into this category.

Big Bud is an indica dominant hybrid.  Its lineage can be traced back to an original robust Afghanica crossed with Skunk genetics.  What is most commonly heard today for Big Bud’s pedigree is Afghani, Northern Lights, and Skunk #1.

Anecdote:

During the late 90’s, I lived in Europe in various locations for almost a year.  One excursion that I remember in particular was a train ride from London, England to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  I went with a few blokes that I knew from the United States who shared similar interests in the botanical arts.

One day there, we met a few local girls who were not only very good looking but had great personalities as well. We found ourselves smoking spliff after spliff of some good Dutch Big Bud that the ladies had.  Mari, the girl that I was engaged in conversation with and I ended up getting separated from the rest of the group shortly after. I was being led by Mari somewhere; I had no idea where I was or where I was going but it was apparent that she knew very well.

After a short cab ride after our jaunt through the city, we ended up in a large field. The aroma of mustiness and dankness grew stronger and stronger as she held my hand and led me further into the shrubbery.  As we went further, the smell was like a nuclear bomb of sour wafts with some nice sweet undertones. In front of us were rows and rows of Big Bud plants chock full of enormous sticky buds. “They looked like they were close to harvest” was the next thing I was thinking but the thought was immediately curtailed when I noticed a topless Mari to my right. Those plants witness things that day that very few plants have witnessed before… what a country!
